Location, Best Time & How to Reach

Barot Valley is located in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, approximately 66 kilometers from Mandi town. It is well-connected by road and can be accessed via a scenic drive through the mountains.

The best time to visit Barot is from April to June, which is the summer season in this region. During this time, the weather is generally clear with blue sky.  You can also visit after monsoon and before winter i.e. in September to December.

  • By Road: The nearest major town is Mandi, from where you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Barot. The journey takes around 2-3 hours, depending on the road conditions.
  • By Train: The nearest railway station is Joginder Nagar, around 40 kilometers from Barot. From there, you can take a taxi or local bus to reach the valley.
  • By Air: The nearest airport is in Kangra (Gaggal Airport), about 115 kilometers away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi to Barot.

Things To Do In Barot Valley

  1. Trekking and Hiking to Bada Bhangal and Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary. These treks offers breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar Range and passes through remote villages.

  2. Fishing in Uhl River. Barot is famous for trout fishing. Anglers from across the country visit Barot to try their luck in the clear waters of the Uhl. You can either bring your fishing gear or rent it from local shops.

  3. Camping: Barot Valley offers several beautiful camping spots along the riverbank. Set up your tent, light a campfire, and enjoy the starry night skies as you listen to the soothing sound of the flowing river.

  4. Exploring Local Villages: such as Multhan and Luhardi, and experience the simple yet vibrant life of the local people. Interact with the villagers, learn about their culture, and savor traditional Himachali cuisine.
